Dance Competition Update

With so many comments and questions regarding the competition vote results, we are asking for your opinion once again on this matter.  Please take a few moments and reply by Monday October 24.  This will be the last "vote" on this.

Update on Dance Competitions:

We have tallied all the surveys that were handed in and this is what the members have chosen:

UKRAINIAN DANCING ON THE BODER-DANCE FESTIVAL – LLOYDMINSTER

March 23-25, 2012

PFE DANCE SHOWCASE – SASKATOON

March 29-April 1, 2012

VERMILION UKRAINIAN DANCE FESTIVAL

April 20-22, 2012

CHEREMOSH UKRAINIAN DANCE FESTIVAL

May 10-13, 2012

Please take a look at this closely; the first two competitions are back to back during our spring break. If we don’t go to Saskatoon then the fifth choice was Veeteretz Ukrainian Dance Festival in Fort Saskatchewan April 24-27th on weekdays, then the sixth choice was Tryzub Ukrainian Festival in Calgary April 28-29th; these are both back to back with Vermilion Ukrainian Dance Festival.

What we are asking from you is to reply on Gmail your concerns and comments in which direction you would like us to go. Several members wanted a big away trip but do realize that they are back to back with these other competitions. Please reply before Oct 24th on Gmail. If we don’t receive any suggestions then we will let the executive decide and the members will have to agree.

Please note that yellow and green groups will not be attending any of these competitions, just the Pysanka Festival in Vegreville, in July 2012.

Congratulations to all Sopilka Dancers!

You all did a fantastic job at the Vermilion festival this weekend and made Mr. Bryan and I very proud of you! It was so nice to see all dancers working so hard to do their very best. That is what is most important! Your very best this weekend meant 7 gold and 1 silver medal for the Blue, Red, Black and Ensemble classes. You should be very, very proud of yourselves. Hard work does pay off! Thank you to all of the parents for your commitment to your children. Participating in festivals is a family commitment and we do very much appreciate your support and enthusiasm. 1 festival and 7 classes until Pryvit weekend! Keep it up Sopilka, we are on a roll!

Note to Parents & Dancers - Blue, Red, Black Classes and Ensemble

Festival season has almost arrived and we would like to remind you of a few important details. Festivals are an excellent opportunity for our dancers to perform their dances on stage; after all dance is a performing art. The added advantage of performing at a festival is the opportunity to receive feedback (both positive and constructive) on our performance. Adjudicators usually comment on dance technique, use of stage, presentation, knowledge of choreography and overall performance quality. It is these areas that form the base of an adjudicator’s mark. Adjudicators may comment on costuming, choreography or other artistic notes but these points do not form the basis of the dance’s mark. Together with the dancers, the teachers will review the comments and notes of the adjudicator following the festival.

It is the firm belief of the Sopilka teachers that festival participation is important. We encourage the dancers and each class to do their absolute best on stage. This is what is MOST important to us!

Please be sure that you arrive on time to the festival venue with all costume pieces. Please also ensure that all hair and makeup is done as per the “Dancer’s Notes Handout”.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to talk to your instructor!

Yours in Dance,
Ms. Corinna, Mr. Bryan and Ms. Kathy
