Festival season has almost arrived and we would like to remind you of a few important details. Festivals are an excellent opportunity for our dancers to perform their dances on stage; after all dance is a performing art. The added advantage of performing at a festival is the opportunity to receive feedback (both positive and constructive) on our performance. Adjudicators usually comment on dance technique, use of stage, presentation, knowledge of choreography and overall performance quality. It is these areas that form the base of an adjudicator’s mark. Adjudicators may comment on costuming, choreography or other artistic notes but these points do not form the basis of the dance’s mark. Together with the dancers, the teachers will review the comments and notes of the adjudicator following the festival.
It is the firm belief of the Sopilka teachers that festival participation is important. We encourage the dancers and each class to do their absolute best on stage. This is what is MOST important to us!
Please be sure that you arrive on time to the festival venue with all costume pieces. Please also ensure that all hair and makeup is done as per the “Dancer’s Notes Handout”.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to talk to your instructor!
Yours in Dance,
Ms. Corinna, Mr. Bryan and Ms. Kathy
