Co-op Giftcard Ensemble Fundraiser

Hello Everyone,
The Ensemble is holding a fundraiser and are asking for support from Sopilka families.

If you shop at Co-op, you spend money right? Why not purchase gift cards from the Ensemble members and let them put some money towards their travel fundraising! It doesn't cost you any extra money and helps the dancers.

Cindy Koroluk will be available at the Cultural Center on March 11, 2013 from 7-10pm where you can pay for your gift cards. Please make cheques payable to Friends of Sopilka. The cards will not be available that night, since they must be ordered, but will be available after March 25th. When you stop by the Cultural that night Cindy will have exact dates for you.

Miss Kristine's Classes for Monday, February 11

Miss Kristine will not be at dance on Monday due to her rehearsal schedule for Vohon's performance on Friday night.

She has arranged for Miss Kassandra to fill in that evening.  Please let your dancers know that they will have a substitute instructor.

Kelsey's Upcoming Workshops

Workshops for Kelsey's groups are set for the following dates and times:

Friday, February 8th:

Red Group       4:30pm - 6:30pm
Black Group     6:30pm - 8:30pm

Saturday, February 9th:

Ensemble          9:00am - 1:00pm

All workshops will take place at the Cultural Centre.

Ensemble Silpada Fundraiser

The Ensemble group with Sopilka School of Ukrainian Dance has teamed up with Cherie Ziegler, Silpada representative, to fundraise for Ensemble travel. If anybody was thinking about placing a SILPADA jewelry order, or would just like to support the Ensemble, we would appreciate your business! Think of Mother's Day coming up, any birthdays, or a “just because” gift for yourself! Ordering is easy and done online. Sopilka’s name will be there. You can send anyone to that site and Sopilka Ensemble would get the credit automatically. Orders get directly shipped to you so anyone can do it! Instructor Ms. Kristine Performing with Vohon - Feb. 15, 2013

To All Sopilka Families,
We have been informed that our very own instructor, Kristine is performing with her group Vohon at the Jubilee in Edmonton on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The show "Kolektsiya" will be great entertainment for the entire family. We can purchase these tickets at a discount from Kristine at $40.00/adult and $30.00/child. Please email Donna Melenka directly at dkmelenka@gmail.com, so the number of tickets can be easily tallied. Kristine will bring the tickets on Monday, January 28/13 so please let Donna know prior to Sunday, January 27th.

Hope a good number of our members can make it to support our instructor. Thank you.

Zabava Costuming

Costumes will be distributed on Monday, Jan. 21. Please bring your dancer at the specified time.
This will be either before or after the class. Be prepared to spend 30-45 minutes.
I have tried to make the times easier for everyone, but I'm sorry that it might interfere with meals or bedtimes.
This is the only way to get costumes to everyone.
The costume parent will be collecting damage deposit cheques. Please have a cheque - undated - It will be returned after the dance season.
I have some cheques from last year. They will simply be passed on to this year. (if cheque will cover new costume)
Please meet in the "dungeon" - storage room, downstairs in the post office, red door on the north side of the building, probably park at back.

Yellow group - Costumes are still being sewn.

Orange group - Meet at the school at 4:30. (I bring costumes for smaller dancers.)

Green group - Costumes are still being sewn.

Blue group - Meet at "dungeon" at 7:15.

Purple group - Meet at "dungeon" at 6:30.

Red group - Meet at "dungeon" at 5:00

Black group - Meet at "dungeon" at 5:45.

Please be there on time. It is much easier when everyone is present.

Co-Costume Chair Still Needed ASAP

There are still two Executive Positions that have not been filled:

Relay For Life Coordinator and Co-Costume Chair.

It is very important that we fill the Co-Costume Chair position immediately. This individual will work closely with Lydia Lastiwka to learn as much as possible before Lydia's daughter no longer dances with Sopilka. Jennifer still has a few years to dance, therefore this person would not be thrown into the position, but would have extensive education in learning "the ropes". We would like this position to be filled by a parent that has been with the club for a couple years and who thinks that their child(ren) will be with the club long term.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARDS

It was brought to the November 5/12 General Meeting the question of: "Is attendance taken at makeup classes?" It was discussed and voted on that:

Attendance would not be taken at makeup classes, therefore not affecting the chance for the "perfect attendance" award.

Attendance would be taken at the Seniors Tour and would affect the "perfect attendance" award.

Hope this clarifies things :)

Black 4:15 - 5:00

Pig Dance 5:00 - 6:30 - this includes all boys in the Orange, Green, Blue, Red, Black & Ensemble

Red 6:30 - 7:30

Ensemble 7:30 - 10:00

St.Martin's

Yellow 5:00 - 5:30

Orange - 5:30 - 6:00 AT CULTURAL CENTRE FOR BOTH (BUT BOYS AT PIG DANCE PRACTICE TILL 6:30)

Green - all boys group at Cultural Center

 

Blue - start at St. Martins at 6:30 - 7:15

Purple same time, same place.

 Snacks: The following families are asked to bring snacks for after the concert. Please bring the indicated snack, cut and ready to serve, preferably on a disposable tray/plate. All remaining families not listed will be asked to bring something later in the dance season.

Christmas Concert December 17, 2012

For all groups, dancers will wear their black Sopilka T-shirts.  Boys are to wear black pants (sweats or dance pants) and girls are to wear black tights with either a black body suit or black shorts.   Costumes for the concert (skirts for girls, hats or vests for boys) will be handed out next week.

Ensemble Girls – please decide on either black booty shorts, leggings, or capris as you will not be getting skirts.  Doesn’t matter which – but you all must match.

Practice Order
4:30 – 4:45           Yellow
4:45 – 5:00           Orange
5:00 – 5:15           Green
5:15 – 5:30           Blue
5:30 – 5:45           Purple
5:45 – 6:00           Red
6:00 – 6:15           Black
6:15 – 6:30           Ensemble

Because of the extra groups we have this year, in order to fit everyone in; we are only having a 15 minute run thru for the groups.  And as Kelsey is unavailable this evening, it will be a lot of work for Kristine.

The younger groups may leave after practice, but please have your dancer back to the school and ready to dance by 6:15pm.

Because of this short time limit, the gymnasium doors will be closed during practice and only the dancers (unless specified by Kristine) will be allowed in.  Otherwise it will be too much of a distraction for the groups, and we cannot afford to have practice run late.

Doors will open to the parents and public at 6:30pm. 

Now I know everyone wants their opportunity to save the “best seats” for their families, but to make this fair, that will not be happening this year.   There are truly no “bad” seats in the house, and everyone will get to see the show.

MORE INFORMATION WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY REGARDING WHICH FAMILIES ARE REQUIRED TO BRING SNACKS AFTER CONCERT.

COMPETITIONS - INFORMATION NEEDED IMMEDIATELY

It is very important that ALL Sopilka Families let Alicja Zagrosh know if your dancer WILL NOT be attending certain competitions.

This is also very important for Solos and Duets to let Alicja know if you are planning to attend any other competitions that Sopilka is not attending as a club.

 

If you have previously told the club, please do so again directly to Alicja so she can send out accurate information.
